Utility Locating for Electricians and Plumbers

The calls we get from the trades are all versions of the same question: where does the existing line run? A buried service from the pedestal to the house before a panel upgrade. A private gas line before the fire pit, the grill or the generator goes in. The water service and the sewer lateral before a repair. The old lines before a new trench crosses them.

We trace with an electromagnetic locator, direct-connected when you can give us a safe point to clip on, induced when you cannot, and we sweep with ground-penetrating radar for anything that will not carry a signal. Marks go down in APWA color code at the line's horizontal position, no depth, and anything we could not find or confirm goes in writing. You get a yard you can trench in and a record you can hand to the homeowner.

What we do not do: open panels, disconnect anything, repair pipe, or pinpoint a partial fault. On a suspected fault we can trace the run, and if the conductor is fully broken we can mark where the signal stops, but the 40-volts-and-flickering case is a fault locator job, and that is your tool, not ours.
