Three Days of Utility Locates on a Mountain School Campus
A school district booked a multi-day campus markout: electromagnetic locating and radar across the whole site, APWA marks, written record of anything not found.

Three days on a mountain-town school campus
The job. A mountain-town school district booked three days of underground utility locates across a school campus in September 2025. The district is a long way from the Front Range, so this was a multi-day booking with lodging: mobilize once, stay, and work the campus end to end.
Why a campus is different. 811 marks the utility companies' lines up to the meters. On a campus that leaves most of what is buried unmarked: the private water and sewer between buildings, the electrical feeds to each building, the communications runs, the irrigation, the site lighting. The drawings for a campus built and added to over decades are rarely complete, and every project the district runs digs through the gaps.
What we did. Electromagnetic locating for everything that carried a signal, ground-penetrating radar for what did not, and paint in APWA color code at the approximate horizontal location. Whatever could not be located was documented in writing rather than left as a blank on the ground.
Why it is on this page. Districts, colleges and facility owners outside the Front Range sometimes assume a Front Range locator will not travel. We will, for a multi-day job, and booking the days together makes the trip make sense for both sides.
