A sonde through the cleanout
We push a 512 Hz sonde into the lateral through an accessible cleanout and follow its signal above ground, marking the pipe's line. Old clay and plastic laterals carry no signal of their own, so this is the way to find them.
Green paint on the path, no digging
The alignment is painted on the surface in APWA green, the standard color for sewer. That is a surface mark only: no camera inspection, no depth, and no digging by us. Marks hold about 30 days on turf, less if the ground is disturbed.
When the trace stops early
A blockage, a collapsed section or a tight bend can stop the sonde. When that happens we mark everything we traced, note in writing where the trace ended, and a trip charge applies. A plumber's camera or jetter clears the way for a second pass.
Add the rest of the yard on the same visit
Most sewer traces happen because someone is about to trench a French drain, plant trees or replace the line. Add a private utility locate to the same visit and the gas, power, water and irrigation get marked too, one trip instead of two. Tell us what you are digging when you send the request.

I don't know where my cleanout is. Can you still trace it?
The trace needs an accessible cleanout: most homes have one near the foundation on the street side, sometimes buried under mulch or rock, and we look for it when we arrive. If you have no cleanout, tell us when you book. A plumber can add one, and until there is a way in we cannot run the sonde, so we would rather say that up front than charge you for a trip.
Where do you do sewer lateral locates?
Colorado Springs, Monument, Palmer Lake, Larkspur, Castle Rock, Falcon and the Denver metro. Sites within about 30 driving miles of Monument carry no travel charge; farther out, a flat travel fee is shown on the quote before you approve it.
What if the line is blocked or collapsed?
The sonde stops where the blockage or the collapse is. We mark the pipe up to that point and record in writing where the trace ended, which is often the very spot the plumber needs. A trip charge applies to a trace that cannot be completed. Once the line is open, a second pass finishes the run.
Will 811 mark my sewer lateral?
No. 811 marks the sewer main in the street and stops at the tap or the end of the city's own line. The lateral from there to your house is yours, and 811 does not trace it. Call 811 anyway if you are digging; it is free and it is required. Then have the lateral marked privately.
Do you inspect the pipe with a camera?
No. This is a locate, not an inspection: we find where the pipe runs, we do not look inside it or judge its condition. If you need to know whether the line is cracked, rooted or bellied, a plumber's camera inspection does that, and our marks tell them where to dig if it comes to that.
